The Not-flowers that bloom in the Spring

Regular readers know that I am fascinated by the incredible variety of mushrooms that pop up in the spring.

I can't help but take picture after picture of them.

Some of them come up slowly and start with a rounded form and end with a cup shape.

The little grey ones come up in the morning and are gone by evening.

Some look like fantastic hats.

Most of them are growing this year in the back yard where the old maple tree came down.

This makes it easy to spot them when I walk across the yard to the big bird feeder.

New birds

All over the yard you can hear the chirps of new birds.

You might like to look around this time of year.
If you look through the grass carefully you might find the delicate shells of tiny bird eggs.

And if you follow the cheep cheep cheep sound you might find a brand new fledgling that has just left its nest.

Ring-tailed Rascal

You know who the ring-tailed rascal is, right? That's what we call Raccoon sometimes.

But I was surprised to find another ring-tailed rascal -
the rare ring-tailed Squirrel!

Sib-munks

There's something stirring out there in the flower box.

I stop and take a look.

It is TWO somethings.

Two big baby somethings.

It appears that two baby chipmunks have grown up in the flower box.
They skip in and out of the hole in the corner.

They must be old enough to manage on their own now.

Shall we name them "Mint" and "Patty" (or "Julep") since they grew up in a mint patch?

Or "Chip" and "Dale"?

What would you call them?
Their mother seems to be calling them both "Chip".

She's sitting on the front flower box yelling "Chip! Chip! Chip!" over and over very loudly.

Seen in the new green grass

Oh look! There's a bunny! Maybe it's the Easter bunny!

Ooops.

There was a bunny there.

"Just doing my job" says Socks.

Not Hansel, not Gretel

"Nibble, nibble, Mouskin, who's nibbling at my housekin?"
Wait a minute - my house isn't made of gingerbread. So why are you eating it, Chipmunk?

After the storm

"Wet?" says Doe. "Of course I'm wet." "You don't see any umbrellas out here, do you?"
