Old Wren Retires

Dear Readers,

Your friend, Old Wren, began keeping this blog for you four years ago. It began this way: each day Old Wren goes out to fill the bird feeders and look around. When you were here you often went out too and together we found the yard full of interesting things to observe. So when you left, Old Wren decided to keep on sharing those little observations with you.

Since then you have gone out into the wide world and seen wonders. You have climbed tall mountains and hiked through ancient forests. You have wandered in fancy gardens full of fantastic flowers and glass rooms full of exotic butterflies. You have seen strange animals in zoos and marvelous bones in museums. You have flown across oceans and floated on famous rivers and lakes. You have found many new interests and occupations.

All this time Old Wren has been poking about the same old place, watching the seasons come and go in slow predictable ways, the plants bloom and fade, the animals live their mysterious lives. Old Wren continues to look for the box turtle in the backyard and the hawk hunting by the pond. But in four years all these stay-at-home delights have already been featured in this blog.   Now, while there will continue to be new fawns and birds in spring; bright leaves and berries in fall; long dark winter days brightened by snow; and hot dry summer days with abundant sunshine -- they will go unremarked here.

This is the last post Old Wren will write.

Still… if you care to see what flowers and fungi are popping up, if you want to listen to frogs and bird calls, if you feel like exploring on a small scale, I will always be going out every morning to fill the bird feeders and look around. Come stay a bit and go out with me.
