Grumpy

"Excuse me," complains this grumpy squirrel, "I do not approve of you watching me through the window." Just what we need - a disapproving squirrel.

Found art

If we had skis it would be wonderful to be outside in this deep powdery snow.
But since we don't, I am staying inside and moving things around and straightening up.
I moved all the cans and sacks and boxes of things out of the pantry.
Underneath where they had been I found this design on the shelf. It is pressed flat into the wood.
Isn't it a lovely pattern?
What do you think it used to be?

Working on 12 inches

"Hey", says Socks, "There's more of this cold stuff than there was yesterday" "And it's over my shoulders," she says. "How am I supposed to do doggie things out here when I can't even walk?"

Snow again

Socks is a little worried. Is this stuff going to stay around long?

The saga of the pumpkin continues

After the ice and snow, the pumpkin is a flat frozen sploch. Something seems to have been eating it. Yuck! Who would eat an old cold rotting pumpkin? Must have been a starving raccoon or a mouse.
Nope. I caught the culprit. Not a starving critter at all. Socks - she'll eat anything!

Take warning

This morning the sun came up in a cloudy sky. All the clouds were red and purple.
Maybe you know the saying:
"Red sky at night, sailor's delight.
Red sky at morning, sailors take warning."
I guess today was not a good day to go sailing.

If our yard had fairies

This upside down flower pot caught my eye.
I thought it looked like a funny round house.
Can't you just imagine some tiny person living there?
If our yard had fairies, one might spend the winter very comfortably inside this snug little house.

A little bit of snow

Just a tiny bit of snow falls and suddenly everyone is anxious for breakfast. "Hurry up already!" demands the little deer. "Can't you see I'm waiting out here?"

The Christmas tree

What has happened to the Christmas tree? Has it fallen down? No, we took it down.
First we took off all the ornaments and lights and carried the tree outside.
It looks smaller out here than it did in the living room.
Off comes the stand that held it up.
Now we drag the tree across the yard.

And into the woods.
Look - there's last year's tree all brown and withered.
We put this year's tree beside it.
The old trees will be a shelter for little birds and animals in the cold weather.

New Year

It's a new month and a new year and Winter is back. I guess the holiday is over.
