Name that bug!

Oh, it's too cold and too early for bugs to be out! Except for this one...This one seems to live in the garden all year long.
It appears to be a species as yet unknown to science.
It doesn't have a name yet.
What shall we call it???

Marching on

The temperature has risen above freezing - it was 40 degrees F! This may seem cold to our friend Lizard, but it seemed warm to me. I went out to cut down some thorny bushes.
Dog found a spot in the sun where the snow had melted.

Be careful of the prickles on this bush! They are really sharp.
If you were helping me pick up the parts I chopped off, you would have to wear really heavy gloves.

Flicker

Just look at this fancy fellow! He has a wonderful polka-dot vest.
His black bib lookes like a fancy necklace.
I like the little spot of red on his head.
Can you see the long yellow feathers in his tail?
He's easy to recognize when you see him.
When you see him, you can say "Oh look, there is Flicker!"

The rain went away

When I said, "Rain, Rain go away", the rain went away.
But this is NOT what I meant! Where's the sunshine so we can play?
We'll just have to play in the snow. We can pretend that these puffs of snow caught in the pine are really white Spring flowers.

March comes in

There's an old saying about this month:
March comes in like a lion
And goes out like a lamb. So do these icicles remind you of lion's teeth?

And do these fluffy clouds remind you of a lamb's wooly fleece?
But some years, it's the other way around:
March comes in like a lamb
And goes out like a lion.
We'll have to wait until the end of the month to see which way this year will go!

Warning - warming!

Don't step out on the ice today! It's getting soft and you might go right through it.
The ice is shrinking. The whole middle of the pond is open now.
The reflection looks like Spring coming.
