The buds open

Just look at those crocus now... I think the March wind has blown them open.

A hint of purple

Brrrrr. The sun is shining but it's still shivery out. The bird bath is frozen.I'm looking beyond the ice into the dry grass - do I see something purple?
I do! It is the first early crocus!

Another Hawk

Dear Old Wren,

I had a hawk visiting my yard too. He looks like the hawk you saw in the Backyard Bird Watch. I stayed far away.

Love,
Lizard

Is it time to get up yet?

It's getting warmer - and look who has poked her nose out."I'm tired of sleeping" says Chipmunk. "Isn't it time to get up now? I'm tired of eating old seeds underground. Is there some corn out for me to nibble on? Isn't it Spring yet?"

Red-bellied woodpecker

It's snowing again! Woodpecker looks in our window. "Can I come in?" she asks. "It's cold out here."

Backyard Bird Count

There is one weekend every year when we count all the birds we see in our backyard.

This year I didn't see many little birds to count.

Instead I spied this big fellow. He was counting on catching a little bird for dinner.

Corn in the morning

"Uh -oh" says Crow. "Here comes the vaccuum cleaner."

"Better eat fast"

"That Squirrel just hoovers up the corn."
